My mission is to help individuals to achieve radiant good health by promoting choice, self-empowerment and personal responsibility for their Health and Well-being. I empower people to strive for the best health possible by showing them how to take charge of their own health through diet, nutrition, and lifestyle, so that they can impact their own destiny .  I encourage people to realise that they are the architects of their own health / body/ life, only they are responsible for the outcome, and that they can determine the path of their life.

I have been a practising Natural Health Therapist for over 15 years. I started my journey in 1994, when I began training as an Aroma-therapist and Massage Therapist. Over the years I have studied a variety of other therapies with many different teachers and schools. Whilst all of these therapies provide a very valid and useful treatment, I soon discovered that in order to truly recover from a condition, an individual’s Nutritional status must be addressed. As a result I went on to study Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy. I am qualified in Nutritional Therapy, Iridology, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and Massage Therapy. A full list of my qualifications and experiences are listed on my website. www.dothurley.com. I am also a Reiki master and Light Body teacher.

My Story

My first career was very different to what I do now. For many years I played the corporate career game as an IT expert for a large, well known UK business. Initially it was fun but as time went on I became more frustrated and disillusioned. Balancing the demands of home, family and a career were difficult. I was fed up of continually losing out to male colleagues for promotions, and being expected to work longer hours just because that was the culture. Not to mention the constant stress and minor health niggles such as constant headaches and poor sleep. I knew things had to change but I didn’t know what or how.

But then some significant events occurred which forced me to examine my world and led me into changing the course of my life.

Some 20 years ago I ‘stumbled’ across some meditation tapes, and that was the beginning of my spiritual journey. This process of ‘Awakening the Light Body’ caused me to question everything about my life, encouraged me to think more deeply about what I was here to do, and ultimately forced me to turn my life upside down. Since that time my spiritual development has played a significant part in my life and my work.

So I began my training as a Natural Health Therapist. I started by becoming an Aromatherapist – simply because I saw a course advertised and knew I had to do it. One thing led to another and I very soon became qualified in a number of therapies. [I am qualified in Nutritional Therapy, Iridology, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and Massage Therapy. A full list of my qualifications and experiences can be found here.] I am also a Reiki master and Light Body teacher.

As I grew more experienced I became aware of the power of such therapeutic work and realised that this was the work I should be doing. However I was too scared to let go of my employment. I kept telling myself that when I had enough clients and the business was bringing in enough money then I could leave my executive career. I was becoming increasingly frustrated trying to juggle home, work and my new passion for natural health. I wanted to get out there and start really helping people.

The next event which rocked my world was that my father, who up until this point had been fit and well, developed cancer.  He died within a few months, not long after his 65th birthday. This was like a bolt out of the blue and left me reeling. Then came the third strike – within 11 months my Mother was also dead, from a heart attack, she was 66.  My parents’ early demise was something of a wake-up call, and it dawned on me that working hard and waiting for your retirement to enjoy life was a bit pointless. Life is for enjoying now, because you never know what is round the corner. In hindsight, I understood what a great gift my parents had left me. They gave me the impetus and means to get on and start doing what I should be doing with my life.

So I left the corporate world behind and moved to the world of healing and support instead. Since then I’ve been helping women, (and a few men) to regain their health and realise their potential by sharing my knowledge and skills as a Natural Health Therapist.

I have been privileged to help many people over the years but realise now that I need to get my message out to a wider audience and so I am reaching out to more women using the power of modern communications and the internet. Hence, the birth of this blog. I hope you enjoy reading it and I would love you to join in.
